Course Prerequisites
Candidates attending the M5117 Microsoft training course should be familiar with PC hardware and devices such as being able to look into the device manager and look for unsupported devices. Candidates should also have a fundamental knowledge of TCP/IP and Windows and Active Directory directory service such as domain user accounts, domain versus local user accounts, user profiles, and group membership. Candidates are also required to be able to map network file shares such as being familiar with Universal Naming Convention paths and mapping local resources to servers and shares and have experience with: installing applications, working from a command prompt such as authoring and editing batch files, and configuring basic input/output system options. They should be familiar with reviewing support logs and know that there is a chronology, sequential order, and severity and have experience of supporting previous versions of the Windows operating system. Candidates should also be familiar with an IT helpdesk ticketing system, have experience of researching online and local knowledge bases and have a basic knowledge of the fundamentals of applications such as client/server applications (how clients communicate with the server). Finally, candidates are recommended to have previously attended and completed course M5105: Deploying Windows Vista Business Desktops.
